Day 23 - At the Himalayan Trout House << | >>
A wasted day, but relaxed

Woke up to a wet, drizzly and overcast day, so all plans for further fishing came to an end.

We ended up spending the rest of the day chilling in our tents in the rain. We did take a drive up to the landslide close to the fishing lodge, but otherwise we lazed around most of the day.

We were joined for dinner by Christopher and a German friend of his - Dr. Rainer Lotz - an accomplished indophile. He and his wife have spent more of the past 25 years in India than in Germany, and they stay on a small island in Goa for most of the year. His wife has a degree in Hindi and Dr. Lotz himself often reiterated during his interesting conversation that he was a complete 'dehaati'.

Not only did he turn out to be more Indian than lots of Indians I know with his knowledge and understanding of local culture and customs, he was also an excellent guitarist and kept us awake late into the night with great renditons of Tom Petty, Grateful Dead, Dylan and even JJ Cale, occasionally joined by Christopher on vocals. I must say his Dylan was absolutely fantastic and his guitarwork nice n tight n bluesy.

Highlights: Dr. Lotz singing Dylan

Downsides: A completely unproductive day
